We refer to her as "Our LaVaughn" because she has stolen so many of our hearts, and she will turn 102 years young on November 8th.
Every morning, she has one Jimmy Dean Sausage Biscuit (just one), a small glass of cranberry juice, five prunes, her pills, of course, and one cup of extra-hot coffee. She refers to this breakfast as "good eating."
LaVaughn is Linda's Mother, and she helps with the doll shop, sorting and cleaning doll clothing, assembling VDC kits, and anything else she can do, including sweeping the porch, doing the dishes, making the beds, and tending after the dogs. She always wants to be useful, and she told me once that my Mom always made her feel important.
She is feisty, and this week, Linda caught her outside in the Colorado snow, trying to fix the fence.
When I asked LaVaughn her secret to life, she said, "Exercise, make your bed, live a clean life, believe in the Lord, and eat Jimmy Dean biscuits."
When I asked her if she would get a Facebook, she met me with an abrupt ‘no’ and said, furthermore, she does not have nor want a phone.
Indeed, LaVaughn inspires us with her activities and has quickly become a social media star. (That was a hard thing to explain to her.) We have seen her make noodles, jam, and potato salad. Her favorite place is McDonald's, where she orders a breakfast burrito or a small hamburger and a Sprite.
To celebrate LaVaughn's birthday, we are arranging a birthday card drive, and Diana Vining made a fabulous paper doll set (including a McDonald’s getup!) of LaVaughn that you can now download here or below!
When we told her of our plans, she said she doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about. If you would like to send a card to the special birthday girl, please send to:
